Looking for a winter break?Dodgy things are these winter holidays.It does not matter where you decide to go,you could end up with nothing but rain.The Algarve is reckoned to be one of the best year round destinations.This is because it has so many hours of sunshine per year,but you could end up with 7days of rain if you are unlucky with the dates you choose.So they need to be approached with caution and preparation.If you go expecting wall to wall sunshine you are going to be totally miserable for however long you are staying.

Everywhere on earth is miserable when it is raining and the closer you are to water the more miserable everything looks.So you should go prepared with some light rainwear in your luggage and a god warm jacket.Be prepared that you might have to stay in and read or play card games or similar.

Most important is to stay somewhere such as a villa or apartment.Rainy days in an hotel can be really dreary when you cannot put your feet up in private and hotel bedrooms are like prison cells to spend many hours in.

If you like isolation then by all means go for that but if you like having things to do then choose your location carefully.If you get rain it helps if you only have a few minutes walk to essential shopping ditto a good cafe or bar and restarant.Try to find somewhjere near to a vibrant town that has a shopping mall,cinemas and covered arcades or marketss.Somewhere that has some good local walks for when the rain goes off.

Plan your winter break as if it is going to rain and you can still have a good time and if you are lucky and get your wall to wall sun you will have a fantastic time.

So do your homework and stay in the right place and ask the right questions of your potential host.That way you will not feel you have totally wasted your money and you never want to go there again.You do not want to feel like that about the Algarve because it is paradise on earth when the sun shines in winter.We have had breakfast on our balcony in glorious sunshine in january and there is nowhere better or more relaxing on earth.

Now I can tell you that our two apartments were chosen carefully and everything mentioned above is there for you if you get unlucky with the weather and everybody does if they take lots of winter breaks.
